Midlands: Final Top Ten Defensive Ends

Myles Garrett

FRISCO, Texas -- Scout.com finalizes its 2014 positional rankings...

1. Myles Garrett

Nat'l Rating: 5
Pos. Rating: 1
Location: Arlington,Texas
High School: Martin HS
Size: 6'4|245
Recruiting: Committed to Texas A&M

Under Armour All-American. He has great size and speed and is just overall one of the most physically impressive specimens in the country. Boasts a scathing 4.5 40-yard dash and a 4.09 pro-shuttle. He is cat quick off the edge and a dynamite pass rusher. At times he also shows great strength and can be powerfully overwhelming at the point of attack. He pursues the run well down the field and has the range and pursuit to make backside plays. Will grow with consistency.

2. Solomon Thomas

Nat'l Rating: 20
Pos. Rating: 4
Location: Coppell,Texas
High School: Coppell HS
Size: 6'3|256
Recruiting: Down to Arkansas, Stanford and UCLA. Will pick on signing day.

U.S. Army All-American. He is tough against the run, but also has the ability to get after the quarterback and wreak some havoc in the backfield. He has the frame to possibly grow out of the defensive end position after a few years in a college strength and conditioning program, but has the athleticism to stick as a strongside end with a great burst and change of direction. He uses his hands well to manipulate offensive linemen and make plays against the run.

3. Derick Roberson

Nat'l Rating: 57
Pos. Rating: 9
Location: San Antonio,Texas
High School: William J. Brennan HS
Size: 6'3.5|225
Recruiting: Committed to Texas

Under Armour All-American. Fiery player, who will lead the 'D' with big plays behind the line of scrimmage. Quick off the edge and can use his burst to get to the outside and blow past offensive tackles, but will also use that same speed to set them up so that he can dip inside and make plays. Can disengage easily from HS players with good explosion. He needs to work on technique and get stronger, but he does do a good job of using his hands to get off of blocks.

4. Grant Blankenship

Nat'l Rating: 91
Pos. Rating: 10
Location: The Colony,Texas
High School: The Colony HS
Size: 6'6|251
Recruiting: Committed to Notre Dame

Blankenship has elite size and plays a spirited brand of football. He has a real mean streak and is advanced enough physically to figure in to early playing time. Not much was known about Blankenship heading in to his senior year, except every school that saw him in person offered. And there is a good reason. His play on both sides of the ball has helped to lead The Colony to a strong season in 2013. He was the star of the show on both sides of the ball.

5. Deondre Clark

Nat'l Rating: 118
Pos. Rating: 15
Location: Oklahoma City,Oklahoma
High School: Douglass HS
Size: 6'3.5|230
Recruiting: Committed to LSU

Clark has a nice combination of size, speed and athleticism. He plays an H-back role on offense, which shows his ability to run and move. On defense, he shows excellent pursuit skills, is physical at the point of attack and is a reliable tackler. He is a big hitter who will at times just completely bury the ball carrier. He can take on and defeat blocks and has the natural instincts to find the ball and make the play. A playmaker on 'D'.

The Next Five:
6. Jarrett Johnson
7. Jordan Brailford
8. Trey Carter
9. Renell Wren
10. Jarrell Owens
