Avon (Ind.) junior defensive end Joe Belden hit a milestone in his recruitment on Super Bowl Sunday when he received his first scholarship offer, and it came from a school he is quite familiar with.

Avon High's 6'3, 225-pound defensive end Joe Belden went to Indiana for junior day on Sunday and left with his first offer of the process. The moment excited him, but it also serves as motivation.

"It feels nice to get the first one," he said, "especially a Big Ten school. It makes me feel pretty good, but I know I need to keep getting better."

Belden visited Bloomington several times before Sunday, and has developed a comfort there.

"It's a nice place. The coaches are really nice, people you can count on to make you better. It's really just a cool place."

He is also looking to develop a better relationship with new defensive line coach Larry McDaniel.

"My relationship with him is pretty nice, even though I've met him once, he seems like a good coach. He likes tough players, so I feel like we would get along. When they offered, he said congratulations and that he likes how I play and that he wants to build a relationship with me."

Belden went to Purdue's junior day on Saturday. He will attend Notre Dame's junior day on March 1st. He is also hearing from Northwestern, Ball State and others.
