NSD Focus: Oklahoma

Joe Mixon

Scout.com National Analyst Greg Powers weighs in with his thoughts on the Oklahoma class now that all of the signatures are in on National Signing Day (NSD)...

During the broadcast of the Army All-American Bowl OU fans got the news they were waiting on when Joe Mixon, a 6-foot-2, 210-pound running back from Oakley (Cali.) Freedom committed. He has great size, but is also very quick and elusive. He also catches the ball well as a receiver and should push for early action.

For the top defender OU had to wait until the day before signing day, but the wait was worth it as they picked up a commitment from the No. 1 rated prospect in-state when Jenks (Okla.) safety Steven Parker picked the Sooners over offers from a who's who of top colleges. At 6-foot-1, 190 pounds, Parker is rated a four-star.

Because he will cause such a mismatch and is a very smart player I predict that the path to the field may be paved pretty quickly for Mark Andrews, a 6-foot-6, 220-pound pass catcher could move around as a receiver. He could line up outside or play in that flex-tight end role.

It did not have any glaring holes, because many of the commits it lost out on it replaced with equal or better quality, but two players on the national scale that OU seemed to have traction with were Braden Smith and Solomon Thomas, neither listed the Sooners amongst its final five.

Dwayne Orso, a 6-foot-6, 250-pound defensive end from Homewood (Ala.) High has the size that will translate well to the next level and was really picking up recruiting traction nationally at the time he pulled the trigger on his commitment to play in Norman.
