Those who have seen him play would say it was just a matter of time, but that makes yesterday's first scholarship offer no less special for Nordonia cornerback Denzel Ward, who posted a 4.31 forty yard dash time at the Best of the Midwest Combine and immediately heard from one of his top schools.
"Offer number one from Cincinnati," he said. "It feels great. I'm looking to keep gaining more and working hard."
As for his contact with the Bearcats, he says,
"I've been down there to watch a game and meet the coaches. Me and Coach Clinkscales have had some conversations."
His relationship with Clinkscales, his position coach, is a big reason for his interest in the program.
"They show a lot of love and I've been calling Coach Clinkscales every week and having good conversation and he's trying to get me back down there to work out with him and stuff. It's a good relationship. He's real. He's up front with you all the time. He's a good coach."
He added, "I'm definitely going to try to get down there soon."
More schools are likely to jump on board over the next few months and Cincy already has some competition.
"I'm talking to Kent State with Coach Needham, Tennessee and Buffalo, Coach Wood."
