Michael McGhee has been over to Ole Miss numerous times in the past. What exactly
was he hoping to get out of his latest trip?
"I just want to see the new facilities and the stuff they have and have fun with their top guys," McGhee said. "I just wanted to look around at their new facilities and get to know some of their top guys. I had not been over there since they completed the indoor practice facility. The new additions are awesome. The meeting rooms, training rooms, weight room, cafeteria, just everything."
What is Ole Miss telling Mike where he stands with them right now?
"Last week coach Freeze came by the school. He talked to coach (Johnny) Hill. They just want to see me get my 40 dropped to a 4.6. I am running it in about a 4.8 right now so they want to see me get it down some. That is pretty much it."
What stands out about Ole Miss right now outside of it being the hometown school?
"I love the facilities and all the coaches and pretty much all the things they have to offer. It is home, and I would love to play at home if I have the opportunity."
Has anyone offered yet?
"I have one from Alcorn State and Southern University."
Which schools are showing the most interest right now?
"It has been Ole Miss, Memphis, MSU, and Alabama has started picking up
some and sending me more stuff lately, but it's been pretty much Ole Miss at
Michael played his junior season at 265-pounds but has lost some weight recently to help him with his speed.
"I have been doing a bunch of box jumps and lateral drills and quick burst stuff to drop it down. Right now I think the start of my 40 is not very good but if I clean that up it should help a lot. I have also lost about 20 pounds. I am down to 245 right now."
What is MSU saying?
"They just want to see the same thing. The like the way I play so aggressive. That is what they love about me. They just want to see me get a little faster too."
Who is closest to offering?
"I would say Ole Miss is the closest. That is just my opinion, but State is right behind them. They stay in weekly contact too."
Mike had 153 tackles and five sacks as a junior while helping his team to the State Championship game. They lost a heartbreaker to Picayune after holding a two touchdown lead with five minutes remaining in the game.
"It hurt bad. I mean real bad. The very next day me and DeKaylin Metcalf went and worked out. We said we are going to be ready for next year and just pick it up where we left off this year. I think next season you are going to see us complete our mission."
