West Recruiting Notebook

A look at the latest news and notes from out West in this week's notebook...

While Signing Day usually sees a flurry of action and drama with commitments after long recruiting cycles, the spring before Signing Day usually sets the quarterback verbals in motion.

And with that usually comes several dominoes falling after.

The West is absolutely loaded at quarterback this year, with seven of the top 12 passers in the country hailing from the region.

And over the next six weeks, three of the nation's top 11 quarterbacks, which happen to be three of the top six passers in the West, will announce their college decisions.

Getting it started is the No. 2 quarterback in the region and in the country, Bellflower (Calif.) St. John Bosco quarterback Josh Rosen.

Rosen will announce his decision on March 20th and UCLA is the heavy favorite to land his commitment.

Folsom (Calif.) quarterback Jake Browning, No. 9 nationally, will announce his decision in early April, and Washington, Washington State, Boise State and California all remain under consideration.

Spokane (Wash.) Shadle Park quarterback Brett Rypien, No. 11 nationally, will also announce in early-to-mid April, after he visits Boise State.  Arizona State offered him this past weekend.

Newhall (Calif.) Hart quarterback Brady White, ranked No. 10 and Moreno Valley (Calif.) Rancho Verde quarterback Sheriron Jones, ranked No. 12, haven't set timetables.

Of course, Ventura (Calif.) St. Bonaventure's Ricky Town, ranked No. 1 in the country, committed to USC in January and Corona (Calif.) Santiago quarterback Blake Barnett, ranked No. 6 in the nation, committed to Notre Dame in the fall.

  • Stanford had a mini-Junior Day this past weekend and a handful of top sophomores were on campus, including Santa Margarita (Calif.) four-star quarterback K.J. Costello and Aberdeen (Wash.) four-star linebacker Joel Dublanko.
