Midlands Notebook: CenTex (3/14)
KINGSBURY LANDS ELITE QUARTERBACK: To state the obvious, the Texas Tech coach has had success with quarterbacks at various programs over the past few seasons (Johnny Manziel, anyone?) and he is well on his way to continuing that pattern in Lubbock. A few hours after last Friday's CenTex recruiting notebook went up, one of the area's biggest prospects, Stephenville quarterback Jarrett Stidham, announced his commitment to Tech via Twitter. I have officially committed to be a Texas Tech Red Raider! #GunsUp— Jarrett Stidham (@Jarrett_Stidham) March 8, 2014 The 6-foot-4, 190-pounder, a four-star athlete, is Scout's top dual-threat quarterback in the nation and is ranked #4 among all quarterbacks in the 2015 class. With a high upside, Stidham will bring a good arm and athleticism -as well as his moxy - to Jones AT&T. *Discuss Stidham's commitment on the Raider Power board. 4-STAR CORNER DECOMMITS: Last week's notebook featured Pflugerville Hendrickson defensive back P.J. Mbanasor, a TCU commit whose recruitment was on the rise. This week, it was reported by various outlets that Mbanasor decommitted from the Frogs' program on Wednesday. #Sooners DB target PJ Mbanasor confirms he has decommitted from #TCU— Bob Przybylo (@BPrzybylo) March 12, 2014 Mbanasor recently picked up offers from Wisconsin, Oklahoma State, and Ohio State, and has remained a top target for Oklahoma. *What does this mean for TCU? Discuss on Horned Frog Blitz. BIG SEC OFFER FOR WACO SAFETY: Midway's Kahlil Haughton is having a whirlwind few weeks, as the 6-foot-2, 180-pound four star athlete continues to nab offers. This week, a big SEC program extended a scholarship to Haughton: LSU. Four-star S Khalil Haughton (Waco, Texas) received a LSU offer from Coach Raymond today, visited for the Arkansas game last year— Hunter Paniagua (@HunterPaniagua) March 12, 2014 LSU is the latest in a string of offers to head Haughton's way, including Oklahoma, Texas Tech, Baylor, Nebraska, TCU, Oregon State, Duke and more. 4-STAR D-LINEMAN ONE TO WATCH: Round Rock's Breylin Mitchell committed to TCU last July, but that hasn't stopped other programs from going after the 6-foot-4, 255-pound 4-star prospect. Mitchell is getting heavy interest from Oklahoma, Texas Tech, and Texas, and recently went to the Longhorn's Junior Day after a personal invitation from new head coach Charlie Strong. The athlete says he plans to take visits to TCU, Oklahoma, and Texas this spring. He also maintains constant contact with the TCU staff, including Chad Glasgow and head coach Gary Patterson.
