DFW Weekly Recruiting Notebook

Scout.com recaps recruiting news in the DFW Metroplex during the week of March 17-23.

Two dozen offers and two commitments occurred involving prospects from the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex this past week.

The first big news of the week came from North Forney 2015 quarterback/tight end Hunter Herndon, who got an offer from Rice on March 17 and committed to the Owls. Later that evening, the 6-foot-4, 238-pounder received his second offer from North Texas.

The second big commitment of the week came Tuesday evening (March 18), when Rockwall-Heath 2015 four-star safety DeShon Elliott committed to Texas, which was considered a favorite for his commitment along with Texas A&M. The 6-foot-2, 205-pound Elliott holds about a dozen offers from programs across the country.

Here's a look at the rest of the offers that went out this past week to players in DFW:

Devine Ozigbo, 2015 RB, Sachse -- the 5-foot-11, 213-pound tailback, who ran for 947 yards and gained 311 receiving yards as a junior, picked up his fifth offer from UTSA on March 17.

Tony Nicholson, 2015 ATH, South Grand Prairie -- the second of three DFW-area UTSA offers went to Nicholson, who is approaching double-digit offers.

Darrion Daniels, 2015 DT, Dallas Bishop Dunne -- the 6-foot-4, 275-pound interior defender has about 20 FBS offers, but that didn't stop D-II program Angelo State from offering him this past Monday.

Jalen Guyton, 2015 WR, Allen -- Guyton's FBS-level offer list is in the teens, but prestigious FCS school Yale offered him March 17.

Jared Mayden, 2016 CB, Sachse -- one of the fastest-rising 2016 prospects in the state picked up a Texas A&M offer last Monday to give him three offers along with Baylor and Texas.

Jason Shelley, 2017 QB, Frisco Lone Star -- the first offer arrived this past Tuesday for the young and athletic 5-foot-11, 160-pound Shelley, who got an offer from Clemson/

Joseph Broadnax, 2015 DT, Dallas Bryan Adams -- TCU-pledged Broadnax got the third UTSA offer in DFW of the first two days of last week when the Roadrunners offered him Tuesday.

Akile Davis, 2015 WR, DeSoto -- like UTSA, North Texas was busy in DFW last week. Davis got a Mean Green offer Tuesday to join his one previous offer from Indiana.

Madison Akamnonu, 2015 OT, Arlington Bowie -- the 6-foot-5, 270-pound Akamnonu could be one of the spring's hottest prospects. Wake Forest offered him Tuesday to give him seven FBS offers.

Kaden Smith, 2016 TE, Flower Mound Marcus -- already one of the state's top 2016 recruits, the 6-foot-5, 235-pound Smith got offered by LSU on Tuesday to push his offer list to eight, which includes Alabama, Clemson, Michigan, Oklahoma, Texas, Texas A&M, and Texas Tech.

Greg Little, 2016 OT, Allen -- speaking of big-time 2016 prospects, the 6-foot-6, 285-pound Little is an early five-star talent. He received an offer from Georgia this past Wednesday to give him more than a dozen high-major offers.

Chris Orr, 2015 LB, DeSoto -- the first offer arrived for Orr this past Wednesday, when North Texas offered him. He's the younger brother of all-conference linebacker Zach Orr, who played a key role helping North Texas finish 9-4 with a Heart Of Dallas Bowl victory this past season.

Sam Tecklenburg, 2015 TE, Plano -- the fourth North Texas offer of the week went to the big-bodied Tecklenburg, who heard Wednesday from the Mean Green, which is the eighth FBS program to offer him.

Connor Williams, 2015 OT, Coppell -- Williams joined Akamnonu as the second Wake Forest offensive line target in the Metroplex this past week when he got a Demon Deacons offer Wednesday.

Charles Omenihu, 2015 DE, Rowlett -- despite a recent commitment to Texas, the 6-foot-4, 220-pound Omenihu continues to see his offer list grow. Iowa State offered him last Wednesday.

Anthony Hines, 2017 LB, Plano East -- it's early, but Hines should be one of the state's -- and possibly the nation's -- top 2017 prospects. Southern Miss and Clemson were the latest schools to offer him as they joined the race for Hines on Thursday and Friday, respectively.

Zach Abercrumbia, 2015 DT, Dallas Skyline -- the 6-foot-3, 255-pound Abercrumbia got a Navy offer Thursday. That gives him half a dozen FBS offers.

Prentice McKinney, 2015 S, Dallas SOC -- TCU offered a pair of South Oak Cliff defensive backs this past Friday. McKinney's TCU offer is one of at least a dozen for him.

Jamile Johnson, 2015 S, Dallas SOC -- TCU also offered Johnson, who committed to Oklahoma in mid-February.

Bo Schneider, 2015 QB, Dallas Jesuit -- the 6-foot-4, 217-pound Schneider got an offer Saturday during a visit to Tulsa, which is the first school to offer him.

Austin Corbett, 2015 LB, Plano East -- the 6-foot-4, 200-pounder got his second offer Saturday from UTSA. The Roadrunners join SMU on his offer list.
