After a couple of relatively quiet weeks recently, action picked up again in East Texas during the past seven days.
But that prior commitment came before other schools joined the race for Lane, who added three offers this past week in addition to his decommitment.
Lane, who now holds nine offers following Monday afternoon's (March 24) Louisville offer, got a Boise State offer March 17, then got offers from Washington State and Texas State on Friday and Saturday, respectively. The 6-foot-2, 175-pound Lane got the Texas State offer while visiting the Bobcats on Saturday, when he also visited Texas, which has shown increased interest in Lane lately. Texas A&M also appears to be a candidate to join the Lane sweepstakes in the future.
Four other players in East Texas got offers during the past week, including Lane's teammate, 2016 safety standout Brandon Jones.
The 6-foot, 190-pound Jones got two big offers Thursday and Sunday, respectively, from LSU and TCU. Those offers pushed Jones' list to nine: LSU, TCU, Baylor, Florida State, Ole Miss, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Texas A&M, and Texas Tech. Jones is expected to be among the state's top recruits in the 2016 class.
Until Friday, Jones was the only East Texas 2016 prospect with at least one FBS offer, but that's the day that news broke of Travon Fuller receiving a Texas A&M offer. The 2016 Athens cornerback had a monster sophomore season this past fall, recording seven interceptions, four field-goal blocks, and 17 extra-point blocks.
In East Texas junior college news, Tyler Junior College defensive tackle Motekiai Maile visited TCU on Saturday and picked up an offer from the Horned Frogs, who joined North Texas on his offer list. Maile is a physical, athletic, 6-foot-4, 300-pound interior defender who will play his sophomore season at TCJ this fall before being a mid-term enrollee for the spring 2015 semester.
