East Texas Weekly Recruiting Notebook

The past week was an eventful one in the East Texas recruiting world. Scout.com recaps all the action that occurred March 24-30.

Longview 2015 running back JaMycal Hasty and Nacogdoches 2015 cornerback Jaylon Lane were the two big newsmakers in the last seven days on the East Texas recruiting scene.

Hasty made headlines Saturday when he committed to Baylor during a spring practice visit in Waco. The 5-foot-8, 185-pound speedster had long been considered a Baylor lean, but had seven other programs on his offer list, including Oregon, which extended an offer March 21. TCU, Texas, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, Oklahoma State, and Houston also offered Hasty, who ran for more than 1,400 yards as a junior this past fall.

Lane had one of the best weeks for any recruit in the country. The 6-foot-2, 175-pound cornerback picked up 12 offers, starting last Monday with Louisville. Arkansas State, Utah State, and Kentucky joined the race Tuesday before Oklahoma, Northern Illinois, Mississippi State, and Notre Dame offered Wednesday.

The offer run continued Thursday with LSU, then Arizona State and Texas A&M on Friday. Syracuse capped the dozen offers Saturday to give Lane 20 offers and counting. Lane, who visited Texas the weekend of March 21 for a junior day trip, visited Texas A&M for its "Friday Night Lights" event and got the offer there. According to TigerSportsDigest.com, Lane plans to visit LSU this weekend.

Nacogdoches 2016 safety Brandon Jones hit double digits Wednesday when Washington State offered him. The Cougars are the first program west of Lubbock to offer the 6-foot, 190-pound playmaker, who already has offers from Baylor, Florida State, LSU, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Ole Miss, TCU, Texas A&M, and Texas Tech.

The other offer issued this past week went to Canton 2015 defensive end/tight end Sam Miller, who visited UTSA on Saturday and got his first offer in person. UTSA wants the 6-foot-3, 220-pound Miller as a defensive end.
