Sheffield Has Busy Spring
Speed is the top factor that Mullica Hill (N.J.) Clearview linebacker Sterling Sheffield wants to show colleges during the upcoming spring evaluation period. He plans to work out in front of double digits schools in the spring, and hit the camp circuit hard. West Virginia and Rutgers have shown the strongest interest at the BCS level, and both want to see his speed. "Right now they just want to see me get faster," Sheffield said. "West Virginia is the same. They want me to come run a 4.6 at their camp and they will offer. Rutgers wants to see me go to their camp and work with their new linebackers coach (Bob Fraser). He likes me." Sheffield will camp at Rutgers, West Virginia, Pittsburgh, Syracuse and Maryland among others. He already has visits to Rutgers and Fordham this spring. "Rutgers was really nice," he said. "They had a lot of good information. I knew they were going to the Big Ten, but it's such a big focus for them. The emphasized it so much. If you go there, you're Big Ten." Sheffield also has interest in Buffalo. "One, I have family up there," he said. "My aunt lives literally a block away from the school. I could walk to her house from there. Also, it's up-and-coming. Buffalo wants to dominate the MAC and I'm all about domination." Sheffield could hit as many as 11 camps over the summer, he said. Wherever he goes, he has the same message in mind for any school interested in recruiting him. "I want them to know that I'm not a quitter," he said. "Johnny Manziel gets the ball stripped from him against Louisiana Tech and he chances the guy down the field and tackles him. That's the kind of player I am. I've always been willing to fight and to work hard. Keep working hard, and I know something is going to come to me."
