This offseason has been a good one for Minshew.
"I've been working hard," Minshew said. "I've been working with a quarterback coach, Big Country, Alex Williams. He's helped me out a lot. I've been going there every week. I've also been doing some work with my offensive coordinator, Wyatt Rogers. They've just been helping me a good bit."
The 6' 1", 215-pound quarterback won the MVP for the quarterbacks at the Nike combine in Birmingham.
"I learned that even if I make a bad throw I have to keep my head up and stay consistent. I think that was the biggest thing for me, just being consistent throughout the day."
Minshew has been on several visits to colleges recently.
"I went to Memphis for junior day. I went to MSU a few weekends back, Louisiana Tech, USM, and Ole Miss. For the most part everyone is just waiting to see me throw live. That's the case for La Tech, USM, Memphis, and Ole Miss. MSU, you know, they know me. I'm just waiting. State is just telling me to just be patient. They're probably waiting on a couple guys and if they don't come through they'll probably offer me. I don't know. Southern just wants to see me throw it. I went to their camp last summer but they were not really looking at me. They were looking at more of the senior class coming in. Ole Miss is probably the closest to offering me right now."
Minshew took in the Ole Miss spring game Saturday.
"It was good. I've been there several times before. It was nice catching up with coach Werner and coach Nix. I got to set in the team meetings and go over their offense playbook. They said I was close to getting an offer. It just depends on how I do when I come up there at their camp this summer. They're coming to watch me play this spring too. I just wanted to go up there and see where I stood with them and what my chances of getting an offer are. I feel I found that out and they were straight up with me. I also wanted to watch Ryan Buchanan and Devante Kincade and see how they've progressed. I wanted to see if they were getting coached up, and to be honest, I was really impressed. They've both grasped that offense really well. I didn't get to see Kincade play in high school but obviously I saw Ryan a lot since he's from Jackson. The progression he's made is pretty impressive."
MSU has also been in the picture since day one but have a new offensive coordinator. This trip was more of a meet-and-greet visit.
"I just wanted to get up there to meet Brian Johnson in person. It really went well. He was good, and I also got a chance to talk to coach Knox. He is the one that recruits this area, and he's one of my favorite coaches I've been in contact with. I felt like their quarterbacks are developing well too. It was a good visit."
Anybody else in the picture?
"I visited Alabama but I don't think anything is going to happen there. I think I'll do well at the camps and I think that is when I'll get my offers."
