Getting surprised by a Wisconsin coach and a Badgers offer at his school, Clifton (VA) Centreville…
Turner's recruitment heating up
Yesterday, A.J. Turner picked up three scholarship offers. The first came from Ohio State. "I wasn't expecting it," said the 5-foot-11, 180-pound Turner. "The offer means a lot. I feel like it's a really big offer because they're a top program. "I called (defensive line) coach (Larry) Johnson and he said they really like the way I play and that we have good chemistry because he recruited me when he was at Penn State. He also said that one of their coaches was going to come by my school soon. I'm going to try to visit at some point." After the Buckeyes, East Carolina pulled the trigger. "I've been talking to (defensive line) coach (Marc) Yellock for a while ever since last season," Turner said. "At the time, I talked him about wanting to major in kinesiology and he said they had a good program. I don't want to major in that anymore, but I'm still very interested in them." The third offer came from Connecticut. "(Safeties) coach (Anthony) Poindexter offered me and he recruited me when he was at UVa," Turner said. "He told me that they believe I'd be a great fit in their program and that I was definitely a guy that could help lead them to a championship." Along with the aforementioned schools, Turner holds offers from Boston College, Duke, Maryland, Old Dominion, Pittsburgh South Carolina, Virginia and Virginia Tech. He is also attracting serious interest from Clemson, Florida, Florida State, Michigan State, North Carolina and Tennessee. Turner's most recent visit was to Virginia. "I went to their spring game and I had a great time," he said. "The coolest part of the visit was at halftime of the game, I got pulled aside for an individual meeting with an academic advisor. It was just my parents and I, so we got to ask him all types of questions about the academics at UVa." He is unsure about future trips, but said he wanted to visit Florida, Michigan State, North Carolina and Ohio State soon. The Centreville standout has no timetable for a decision. Turner will compete in the NFTC this Saturday at his high school. Update: Turner received an offer from Clemson late last night and another from Wisconsin earlier today.
