Midlands Notebook: CenTex (4/25)

A look at the latest news and notes to come out of Central Texas this week...

BIG WEEKEND FOR ROADRUNNERS: On Saturday, UTSA will hold their annual spring game and an impressive number of recruits will be in attendance.

Of the committed prospects to be at the Alamodome are receiver Matt Guidry, running back D'Anthony Hopkins, and offensive lineman Alex Snow. Players who will be in attendance that hold UTSA offers are quarterbacks Manny Harris, Da'Shawn Key, and L.G. Williams, receiver Derrick Dick, offensive lineman Clayton Woods, running backs Devine Ozigbo, Jess Anders, and Jacob Murray, athlete Billy McCrary, and defensive lineman Sam Miller. Others could pick up offers this weekend, such as quarterbacks Quinten Dormady and Jaylon Henderson, defensive linemen Jassavia Reese and Kerry Walker, and linebacker Diamon Cannon. For the most up to date list, make sure to check the UTSA football board on InsideRunnerSports.com.

CENTEX 2016 DL GET FOURTH STAR: After watching his sophomore film, it shouldn't come as a surprise that Killeen Shoemaker's Kendell Jones picked up his fourth star in the recent rankings update. A 6-foot-4, 300-pound prospect, Jones holds offers from Texas, Oklahoma, Texas A&M, Baylor, and Arkansas and will likely pick up a good number during this spring and his junior season.

(What currently unranked 2016 prospects could also join that elite group? Our Midlands recruiting team takes a look in this week's Recruiting Roundtable).

Ohio State COMES TO TEXAS: P.J. Mbanasor, the highly sought-after defensive back from Pflugerville Hendrickson, will get a B1G visitor today, per Scout's Jason Higdon.

The 6-foot-2, 182-pound prospect, a Scout-four star, is well into double digits, with recent offers from Texas and Florida. P.J. Mbanasor says he's hoping to make his decision sooner rather than later.

ORANGE & WHITE GAME IMPRESSES RECRUITS: The changes at Texas under Charlie Strong are already noticeable, and the spring game received positive feedback from Longhorn targets. Of recruits in attendance include CenTex prospects quarterback Quinten Dormady out of Boerne, Breylin Mitchell out of Round Rock, and Josh Uluocha out of Stafford. Dormady mentioned he was happy to see real game situations and that he looks forward to the coaches visiting Boerne this spring. Mitchell, a TCU commit, said "everything felt like home" and that "defensive intensity was key", and Uluocha called Texas his number one.

It was also announced that Jason Higdon will be coming aboard to join Brown, William Wilkerson, and Kevin Flaherty.
