Washington Snags First Offer
Longview (Texas) running back JaMycal Hasty committed to Baylor about a month ago, but he's still providing breaking recruiting news. The four-star playmaker tweeted Monday night that offensive lineman teammate Broderick Washington picked up an offer from Arkansas State to kick off Washington's recruitment. Hasty added that Washington also got an FCS offer from Lamar. Washington is a 6-foot-3, 285-pounder who plays offensive tackle for Longview, but probably projects best to the next level as an offensive guard given his height. Washington is a physical prospect who can play with a mean streak, perhaps the attribute most loved by his head coach -- former Northwestern State offensive lineman John King. Washington was the best college prospect on an offensive front that helped Longview win the 12-5A district championship and finish 11-2 with a third-round playoff appearance this past season. League coaches picked Washington second-team all-district, while the East Texas Sports Network, which covers more than 100 schools, tabbed Washington as a third-team selection on the East Texas Super Team. Washington helped the 5-foot-8, 185-pound Hasty enjoy a huge junior season. Hasty ran for 1,413 yards and 13 touchdowns on 7.4 yards per carry. Hasty also caught 12 passes for 255 yards and three scores. But Washington also served as a good pass-blocker, helping 2015 quarterback Dezmond Chumley throw for 2,241 yards, 33 touchdowns, and only five interceptions. As usual, Longview has multiple college prospects. Other than Hasty, Washington, and Chumley, there's 2015 athlete Antonio Carter, 2016 offensive lineman Tim Clay, 2016 safety Keenan Madden, and 2016 running back Tylan Miller. Additionally, 2015 kicker Andres Perez has gotten interest from Arkansas and Baylor. Marquies Hunter, a 2015 fullback, could be a darkhorse prospect to keep an eye on after measuring 6-foot, 254 pounds and breaking numerous Longview weightlifting records this spring. Hunter set Longview records in the front squat (440), power-clean (350), and the snatch (225) to win the program's "Ironman Challenge" this offseason.
