Jones Doing His Part

The Denver (Colo.) Mullen safety, James Jones, is doing several camps to get more attention...

Denver (Colo.) Mullen safety James Jones IV (6-1, 175), has grown up around the game of football, his father the defensive line coach at San Jose State.

"Having my dad as a coach, it definitely helps with the recruiting process and how it operates and the atmosphere of D-I football and the competition within the atmospheres," said Jones.

His father had coached at Northern Colorado before joining the Spartans staff but Jones stayed in Colorado to finish his prep career.

But he's been playing 7v7 out West with TMP and now Kenion Training.

"The competition is better out here and the speed of the game is faster," said Jones. "I feel as a prospect, I should be out here competing with the best of the best."

Jones looked good at last Sunday's Passing Down Best of the West, but is still waiting for his first offer.

"I don't have any offers yet, but I'm getting a lot of interest from schools, including San Jose State," said Jones.

The in-state schools, Colorado and Colorado State, have talked with him as has Wyoming.

"I took a visit up to Colorado and they like me and want me to camp with them," said Jones. "I also went up to Wyoming and they liked me too."

Jones can play either corner or safety, but said most schools say safety is where he'll end up.

"I just want to play DB in college," said Jones.
