West Recruiting Notebook

A look at the latest news and notes from out West in this week's notebook...

Sun Devils Land Signal Caller

The Sun Devils landed their second quarterback in 2015 in White.
Arizona State pulled in a four-star quarterback for the second straight class and grabbed a top 10 nationally ranked prospect in Brady White on Friday.

The No. 9 quarterback in the country out of Newhall (Calif.) Hart, White picked Arizona State from a final three that also included California and Oregon.

The verbal from White gives the Sun Devils their second quarterback commit in the 2015 class with White joining Chandler (Ariz.) dual-threat Bryce Perkins, and gives Arizona State a pair of top 40 passers.

"It's where I felt most comfortable with the coaches, the campus and the overall football program. When I first visited ASU back in early April, I was blown away. I came home from that visit and told my dad that ASU was No. 1 on my list and that's where I saw myself. That trip really opened my eyes to what a great school ASU was," White told Scout.com

White is the fourth top 10 quarterback to commit to a Pac-12 school (Ricky Town, USC, Josh Rosen, UCLA and Jake Browning, Washington, are the others) and is the sixth top 10 quarterback from the West to make a decision.

No. 6 ranked Travis Waller from Anaheim (Calif.) Servite, is the highest-ranked uncommitted quarterback in the West, and Cal, which lost out on White, offered Waller that same day while Oregon, which also missed on White, could pick up their recruitment of Waller.

Golden State Receivers Stay In-State

A NorCal receiver is headed to Southern California while a SoCal receiver is headed to Northern California.

Those were two of the other commits coming out of California in the last week, with a pair of California receivers choosing to stay in-state, but heading to the opposite region.

Elk Grove (Calif.) Cosumnes Oaks four-star receiver L.J. Reed had long favored UCLA and he committed to the Bruins after their Spring Game at the StubHub Center. It's the third time in four years the Bruins have pulled in a player from the Sacramento-area school and he follows the receiver he played opposite of, Alex Van Dyke, to Westwood.

Corona (Calif.) Centennial three-star receiver Greyson Bankhead had favored Cal for some time, but just needed an offer. On Friday, the Bears offered and he didn't hesitate to commit. The Bears have had great success at Centennial, namely Tre Watson in the 2014 class and Bankhead will follow Watson to Berkeley.

Linemen Make Choice

The West's top offensive tackle and one of the top linemen in the Northwest both made their college decisions in the last week and both are headed to Pac-12 schools.

Scottsdale (Ariz.) Chaparral offensive tackle Keenan Walker, the No. 1 tackle in the region and a selection to The Opening in 2014, committed to in-state Arizona over offers from Ohio State, Texas, Texas A&M, USC, Nebraska, UCLA, Washington and, Arizona State.

The 6-6, 280-pound Walker is a top 10 tackle nationally and is a big boost for the Wildcats, especially on the offensive line.

A week later, Yakima (Wash.) West Valley offensive lineman Shane Lemieux chose Oregon, the first school to offer him, over offers from Boise State, Cal, Louisville, Miami, Michigan and South Carolina among others.

Lemieux can play either tackle or guard, but will likely play inside for the Ducks.

Branden Bowen - OT - Draper (Utah) Corner Canyon - 2015
In a good year for Utah talent, Bowen is another rising prospect from the Beehive State and he's at seven offers with more schools dropping by Corner Canyon this spring, including USC this last week. Bowen has offers from Boise State, BYU, Colorado, Oregon State, Utah, Utah State and Washington State and plenty of other schools plan to see the 6-7, 306-pounder this spring.
