Dallas NFSC: SPARQ Standouts

2015 S Tyler Phillips

ARLINGTON, Texas -- Scout.com recaps the top testing performances at Saturday's Dallas Nike Football SPARQ Combine from AT&T Stadium.

Nike Football staff reported more than 1,700 athletes from multiple states performed during Saturday's Dallas SPARQ combine at the home of the Dallas Cowboys.

A quick look at the top SPARQ scores tell you one simple theme: North Little Rock (Ark.) football has some serious athletes. NLR produced the top three SPARQ scores and five of the top 10, including the 141.36 posted by 2015 safety Tyler Phillips, who now has the highest score in the nation this year.

North Little Rock's Justice Austin joined Abilene (Texas) Wylie's Clay Johnston and Plano (Texas) West's McKinley Mitchell as linebackers who performed well. All three finished with SPARQ scores in the top seven. Austin scored the top SPARQ at the April 5 Dallas Nike Football Training Camp at DeSoto High School.

But NLR wasn't the only Arkansas school with strong performances. Hardy (Ark.) Highland 2015 receiver Avery Johnson finished eighth overall Saturday with a 115.44 SPARQ. Mayflower (Ark.) 2015 running back Justin Bailey tied McKinney (Texas) North 2015 safety Bryce Balous for the event's best 40 time as each ran a 4.39.

Balous, who has an Iowa offer, is the son of former Oklahoma running back Johnnie Balous, who was a 2,000-yard rusher at Carthage (Texas) High School in the 1990's.
