EUGENE -- Oregon quarterback Jake Rodrigues talks to reporters following the 2014 annual spring…
Former Oregon QB has options
Jake Rodrigues signed with Oregon as part of the class of 2012 but decided a few weeks ago to transfer out of Eugene and was given his release last Wednesday. "I just felt it was time to move on," Rodrigues said last Friday while in Oakland for the Elite 11 Regional Camp. "I want the chance to play and compete and I want to be the guy. I think this is the best decision for me and I'm going to work my butt off wherever I end up. "I'm going to have to sit out a year and then I'll have three years to play two. So I'll enroll in the summer, take the whole year to learn the system and then be ready to go and compete for the job in 2015." Rodrigues said several schools have already reached out. "I've heard from Texas, Michigan, Miami, San Diego State, Utah State, Nevada and a few others," Rodrigues said. "I can take five official visits and that's what I plan to do. This is my last shot here so I need to make sure I do it right and make the best decision for me. "I'm looking at schools with a graduating quarterback this fall so I'll be able to come in and compete right away. I haven't set any trip dates yet but I'm talking with Utah State and that could be set up for the next two weeks and SDSU as well. "Texas also wants to trip me in and I have high interest there as well. I'm just looking for the right fit wit the head coach and OC and a place where they'll let me play my game. Like I said, I know this is my last shot so I'm ready to go in and work my butt off and make the most of this opportunity."
