McGruder Ready to Visit
He has yet to make any visits up to this point. But that has not stopped close to 20 programs from offering Houston (Tex.) Alief Taylor defensive back Kenneth McGruder. Now that spring football is over, McGruder looks to put things into perspective and start making some moves. "I have plenty offers. Ohio State, Oklahoma State, Boise State, Iowa State, Nebraska, Colorado and Oregon have offered. There are more I just can't think of them all right now," McGruder said. "So far, I have not taken any visits. But I will probably go to Nebraska for June 14 for Big Red week. I'm also going to try to get to Lubbock to visit Texas Tech, and also try to get to LSU. I may go with Chris Hardeman when he goes down to Oklahoma State too on the (June) 8." Looks as though the 6-foot-2, 203-pound McGruder could have a nice variety of programs to check out. No favorites, per se, were named, but he did say that Oregon State, Texas Tech, Ohio State, Florida and LSU are just a few that are "standing out" to him. With the physical make up of McGruder, that has been a huge selling point for a number of the college coaches. And yes, of course, the defender can make plays. "Coaches like my size and saying I could come in and play as a freshman. Coaches are looking for guys who can come in and play off the bat," McGruder said. "For me, really, I'm just trying to improve my speed. I also need to come down on my angles better, better than I did today. I took a poor angle on a play, but I bounced back." McGruder was referring to a play he missed at the spring game. He continued speaking on the final spring showing. "I just need to recognize what I am supposed to do and what everybody else is supposed to do. As a leader on the defense, I need to make sure and get them in their place (on the field)," McGruder said. McGruder finished 2013 with over 60 tackles, seven pass break ups and three interceptions.
