O'Neal Beginning His Ascent

Summit Argo (Ill.) junior Corde O'Neal's size, athleticism and ability to project to multiple positions has brought him six offers and camp season could bring about more.

One Midwestern prospect to keep an eye on as camp season kicks off is Argo Community High's Corde O'Neal, a 6-foot-3, 202-pound rising senior who had a big junior year (film here) at wide receiver, but could project to several different positions come college.

"I'm being recruited as an athlete really," he says. "I played a lot of different positions, but some schools would like me to get bigger to play outside linebacker."

Some of those schools make up the six who have offered him so far: Northern Illinois, Toledo, Ball State, Western Michigan, Eastern Michigan and New Mexico. The Cardinals were the first to offer.

"When I got Ball State, it was a great feeling. It was a lot of pressure taken off me. It was exciting and I thank them for that opportunity."

In addition to those who have offered, there are many others in contact, including a few BCS programs looking to see more of him at camp time.

"I talk to Minnesota, Syracuse, Wisconsin, and I talked to Indiana a little bit and some other schools too. I'll probably go to Wisconsin, NIKE, Indiana and NIU for camps."

In the span of a month, O'Neal has gone from relatively unknown with no offers to having a half a dozen with more possibly on the way.

Since the rise in his recruitment has been so quick, he is still unsure of when he would like to make a commitment.

"I haven't decided yet, but probably a little before the season, but if not, then mid-season."
