Franklin Has Big 12 Interest
Some programs just have a knack for putting out quality players. And in some cases, a particular position at high school programs can stand out amongst the rest. So when Scout.com was introduced to Houston (Tex.) Alief Taylor defensive back Benji Franklin, it was clear that this kid may be the next. Next in that the Taylor program has been providing a number of college across the country with quality defensive backs. And even though Franklin is a 2016 recruit, it was suggested that he may be the next big thing. But even with those comments (which came from a member of the coaching staff), the 5-foot-10, 160-pound Franklin admits there is more than enough work still to be done. "This year I need to improve on my footwork, my catching ability and I need to ball hawk more. But I do feel like I played pretty good last season," Franklin said. He did not have all of his numbers handy, but he did record an interception and was in on a few tackles as well. Franklin has not yet landed an offer, but one could possibly come as soon as this summer. It was mentioned that Alabama, Missouri, Ohio State and Oregon have checked in on him, while Big 12 programs Baylor, TCU and Oklahoma State have as well. One of these schools would like a closer look. "(Assistant coach Kendal) Briles invited him to the camp in Houston and told him he had a shot at an early offer," a member of the Taylor coaching staff told Scout.com Franklin said that the early word on him is that coaches like his tackling skills and his ability to reroute receivers off the line.
