2016 First Look: Dylan Thomas
We've come across Fort Worth Paschal 2016 athlete Dylan Thomas twice during the past four weeks. Each time, we've come away impressed. The first encounter came at the Dallas Nike Football SPARQ Combine at AT&T Stadium in Arlington on May 3. Thomas, who measured 6-foot, 1/2-inch, 185 pounds at the event, ran an impressive laser-timed 4.60 40-yard dash and also recorded a respectable 4.31-second pro agility. Then came Thomas' impressive morning at the May 24 Frisco Liberty 7-on-7 state qualifier tournament. He played quarterback and receiver and performed well as Paschal piled up points against multiple opponents. Well, apparently we aren't the only outsiders to come away impressed by Thomas, who confirmed with me Saturday afternoon that he received his first offer from TCU. Thomas said the offer is as a receiver. Earlier in May, Thomas said Oklahoma, North Texas, Tulsa, and SMU were all showing early interest. He said OU likes him as an athlete, while the other three were showing interest in him as a quarterback. Thomas broke down what he's working on in preparation for his junior season. "Accuracy. I've been so anxious to roll out and make the play," Thomas said, "kinda sit in the pocket and work on stuff that makes me an actual quarterback." At the time, Thomas figured once he took his ACT, that could start the offer process. But it looks like it has already started. "I've gotten a couple of letters from Florida and places like that. It's picking up a lot more," Thomas said. "Things are just going pretty good." Thomas got plenty of playing time at quarterback this past fall as a sophomore. He was a capable passer, but especially dangerous when improvising. Thomas accelerates very well in the open field and has good stop-start ability, making him a perfect candidate to play the type of receiver role so many of today's college offenses use with quick-hitting passes and dumpoffs. Thomas will be a player to watch the rest of the summer as this first offer, as well as the remainder of 7-on-7 season, could get him some more exposure.
