Commitment Capsule: Adam Solomon

Commitment Capsule: Adam Solomon

Illinois was the first offer for Indianapolis (Ind.) Bishop Chatard offensive tackle Adam Solomon and even though he would add others through his recruitment, his connection with the Illini lead to his commitment to them on Saturday. We take a closer look at his game here.

Adam Solomon profile

His Recruiting Story:

Committed to:

Pos Rank: 50
State Rank: 9
6-6 | 290
Offensive Tackle
Indianapolis (Ind.) Bishop Chatard

Solomon shot up and gained roughly 50 pounds leading up to his junior season, which brought him attention from schools throughout the fall. He received his first offer from Illinois in October. Purdue joined them in December and Indiana and Cincinnati came later in the Winter. The SEC would join in during the Spring when Kentucky offered. However, the first school won out as Solomon committed to the Illini the final day of May.

Quotable:
"He's a great kid. He's an honor roll student. He's very articulate with the coaches. I think all the college coaches that met him really liked him."
-- Bishop Chatard head coach Vince Lorenzano in the Indy Star.

Scouting Report:
Solomon has a great frame. He can bend it and move it better than a lot of kids his size though. He plays with good pad level and is often blocking kids smaller than him and does a nice job of getting low enough to do so. He's naturally strong and finishes his blocks pretty well. He needs to keep working on his pass protection, mainly his pass set and overall technique there. He also will have to adjust to the collegiate level of competition as he has not gone up against a ton of fellow FBS players. The good thing is, he's a hard working kid, a smart kid, and one that will be a good locker room guy.

Overall: He will need a little bit of time, but this kid has the frame and natural tools to be a really good one for the Illini. It would be surprising if he didn't redshirt his first year but it would also be surprising if he didn't start competing for a spot soon after that.
