Mike Bell is one of the most versatile defensive backs out West. At 6-3, 180 pounds, he has the ability to be a big corner, where he excelled all spring playing for Ground Zero or can play free safety.
Bell is long and rangy with good speed and can be very physical at the line of scrimmage. He tackles well and definitely has the toughness and hitting ability to play safety but said he was recruited by San Diego State to play corner.
"I visited over the weekend and loved it there," Bell said. "I loved the atmosphere and the academic programs they have are amazing. I like Coach White a lot, he's a great guy, real funny and we clicked and it's always good to have a strong relationship with your position coach.
"I know it's early but it just felt right to me and I wanted to get recruiting over with before my season. Now I can just focus on football and school my senior year and not have to worry about where I'm going to college."
Bell said his plan, assuming the trip went well, was to commit while on the Aztec campus.
"Me, Hasani Smith and Jerry Chaney talked about this before the visit," Bell said. "We all said we wanted to commit and just wanted to be sure we felt comfortable there. We all loved it and decided we were ready.
"I still want to take my visits and go through the process a bit but I'm solid. I really like SDSU a lot, it's close to home but still far enough away, I like the coaches and it's a great opportunity for me to go and play early so I'm excited."
