4-star OT Newsome Goes Blue
If the battle on the field is anything like the one off in recruiting four-star offensive tackle Grant Newsome, it should make for some fun times when Michigan and Penn State play. The intense battle to land Newsome, who plays at The Lawrencevile (N.J.) School, came to an end Wednesday when he announced his commitment to Michigan. "Just committed to Michigan," Newsome said in a text to Scout.com. He then announced his decision via twitter. "I feel that Michigan is the best fit athletically, academically and socially for me, and I am excited to spent the next four or five years of my life in Ann Arbor. I would also like to thank coach (Brady) Hoke, (assistant) coach (Darrell) Funk, (assistant) coach (Chris) Singletary and the entire Michigan staff for making me feel like a part of your family. I can't wait to get on campus and become a part of team 136." Newsome made the decision after visiting Penn State for two days last week, and then traveling to Michigan for a two-day visit. In a lengthy statement announcing the end to his recruitment, Newsome thanked all the schools for recruiting him, including singling out Penn State's staff for its effort, as well as the staff at Lawrenceville, his teammates, friends and family members. "I could have never imagined 15 months ago that I would be in the position that I am in now, having numerous great opportunities before me," he said. "I can honestly say that this process has helped me mature exponentially, and I will always be thankful for that." Newsome closed out his statement with, "Thank you all for reading, and Go Blue!!"
