The coaches at Cass Tech have been saying LaVert Hill is one of their next great cornerbacks for awhile now. He backed up that claim at this week's Sound Mind, Sound Body camp where he was consistently jumping routes and making plays on the ball in one on ones.
The University of Illinois was one of the schools who noted that performance and they became the first school to offer the 5-foot-9, 165-pound prospect.
"Coach Banks offered me," he said. "I was supposed to find him after camp was over then Coach Crowell called me and told me I had the offer. It feels good for all the work I put in to get an offer, I'm excited."
He added, "I haven't been down there and I really haven't talked to Coach Crowell about visiting. I'm going to Michigan State Saturday then taking a college tour to North Carolina, North Carolina State and Miami (Fl.)."
The offer is a milestone for Hill and is not likely to be his last, but he knows he cannot simply sit and wait for more, and this achievement only serves as a catalyst for his continued off-season work as he looks towards Fall.
"I still have to work hard to get other opportunities but it is good motivation."
