A new offer changes things up for Poolesville (Md.) three-star defensive end Jon Bateky…
Bateky Talks Rutgers Visit; What's Next?
Poolesville (Md.) High defensive end Jon Bateky ended an overnight visit to Rutgers with a Saturday morning meeting with the coaching staff, and now is pondering his next move. He already made a similar visit to Boston College, and is looking at trips to West Virginia and Virginia Tech, but whether those take place is uncertain. What's next for the 6-foot-4, 235-pound Bateky? "I'm not sure yet. I have to talk to my parents about something now," he said. "I'm thinking about (other visit). I'm not sure right now." The visit to Rutgers allowed Bateky and his parents a chance to see the program in-depth, and on a much more personal level than when he was offered during a Junior Day visit in the spring. "It went really well," Bateky said. "Just being able to be around the players and meet some students, and just get the overall vibe of the place. Being able to look around the campus, you get to see what's really going on, see the real place." Bateky said spending so much time with members of the Scarlet Knights' defensive line gave him an inside glimpse of the program, which was important if he decides to attend Rutgers. "I hung out with mostly the freshman defensive lineman, like Kemoko Turay, Sebastian Joseph, and guys like that," Bateky said. "I learned what the life of a Rutgers football player is, the vibe they give out, and things like that." Finally, the trip ended with Bateky and his parents meeting with coach Kyle Flood and defensive line coach Jim Panagos. "They told me how much I would mean to the program," Bateky said. "They told me pretty much how they work as Rutgers football players to be the best."
