One would think a top young California offensive lineman could find enough camps in his own backyard to wet his appetite. Not the case for Yorba Linda native David Garfunkel as he traveled with his father to Detroit, Michigan to take part in the 2014 edition of the Sound Mind Sound Body Camp.
"This was a great opportunity to come out here and put in a lot of hard work," said Garfunkel. "There were a lot more kids out there than I thought there would be and working with the college coaches was really good as I learned a lot of new stuff."
Like others who attend the annual camp in Michigan, Garfunkel couldn't get over the number of prospects in attendance.
"There are a lot of people here," he said. "But I thought I compete well and did well in the drills."
Did Garfunkel grab any attention of even an offer during the event?
"No offers yet," he said. "But I'm now talking with a lot of coaches."
With a father who hails from the east coast, Garfunkel is open about his future football home. However, one school may stand above the rest.
"I'm willing to go anywhere," he stressed. "This year I'm hoping to go to some camps and get some exposure and then have a good high school year. Notre Dame is probably the school I have great interest in. But, any school that is a good academic school would be great."
