Midlands Commitment: Collin Wilder
Collin Wilder (class of 2016) Safety 5-11, 186 Katy (Tex.) HS Committed to Texas Tech Chosen over Nebraska, TCU, Baylor Stat Line (2013): 115 tackles, 9 PBUs, 5 INTs Run Down: It's really simple, Wilder landed a scholarship offer before the start of his sophomore season after showing well in the camp circuit. From that time to the present, the Red Raider offer was the only one he holds, though interest in him has picked up since this off season. A couple weeks back, Wilder felt that Nebraska was showing the most interest and an offer may have come. But even that was not enough. Since his freshman year, he has visited Texas Tech four times, most recently for a camp, which was last week. That was the time when the commitment feelings started happening. "It just felt right…" That's how Wilder felt, thus leading to his commitment, which was announced via twitter. What this means for Texas Tech: Like many who have come before him from the powerhouse Katy program, Wilder is a player who plays well against the run from the safety position. So well to the point that some of the colleges recruiting him have asked for him to learn the linebacker position as well. This is not an indictment of Wilder's play, but more so validation of his versatility. In the passing game, Wilder is solid here as well, though his run support is the strength of his skills set. Good deal here is that Wilder will have two years to perfect his craft before taking on the offenses in the Big 12. In the Words of Wilder: "I was at the camp last week and I knew from then, that's the school for me. Everything just felt right at Tech. I know I'd be happiest there."
