Midlands Recruiting Mailbag (6/17/14)

Damarkus Lodge

Scout.com tackles questions in its weekly Midlands Recruiting Mailbag feature...

Q: Where do you think DaMarkus Lodge and Richard Moore end up committing on Thursday?

A: Well Lodge has delayed his announcement and it looks like he will be taking his official trips before deciding. Ole Miss, Texas A&M, LSU and Clemson seem to be the favorites. I would pick Ole Miss if I had to right now. Moore is still on schedule for his Thursday announcement at this time and I think that he will end up picking Texas A&M.

Q: If there were one guy in the Midlands you had to pick to go to Nebraska, who would it be and why?

A: If I would have gotten this question last week I probably would have picked Scott Frantz and been wrong, so I guess timing in life is everything, right? As far as Midlands players, who are uncommitted and happen to have offers from Nebraska I think I would probably handicap Marquise Doherty as the most likely to end up on the commit list. He is from the Kansas City area, where the Huskers have had success and two-sport star, where Nebraska has also had success. Also seems to be high on Big Ten schools as well. Not 100% on the situation or the need for him on NU's end, but he'd be my best guess.

Q: Does Alabama have a good shot at landing defensive end James Lockhart?

A: Yes. I think they certainly do, but I will admit I have always been leaning towards him staying in-state at a Texas A&M, Baylor or Texas. But the Tide impressed him on his recent visit have made him think about playing his college ball out of state. In a recent interview with BamaMag.com Lockhart said of Tuscaloosa, "It was a smaller city, similar to Ennis and the stadium and the facility were in the heart of the city. It was nice. Alabama they are just a football school and that is how it is in Ennis, Texas."

Q: Who are you picking in the Arlington Bowie SQT this weekend?

A: Ouch. After going 0-for-2 in last week's picks I believe I need to get both qualifiers right to get back to 50%. I am taking Arlington Bowie at home with a solid draw. They are annually one of the toughest in seven-on-seven and have all the pieces in place to be great again this year. On the other side of the pool play it is a little tougher with Lamar, DeSoto and John Tyler all teams who seem to do very well in 7v7. I think I am going to roll with DeSoto this time around. So give me Bowie and DeSoto.
