Upper Midlands Weekly Recruiting Notebook

LB Marcel Spears

The camp season has recruitment rolling at warp speed in the Upper Midlands region. It was a week full of commitments and offers.

Clinton (OK) running back Marquiz Simpkins is starting to see his recruitment take shape. He added offers from New Mexico and Southern Mississippi in the last week.

Oklahoma City wideout Dahu Green committed to Lousisville earlier today. He picked the Cardinals over other offers from Kentucky, Cincinnati, Illinois, Indiana, Virginia, Wake Forest, and Washington State. Bobby Petrino and company are getting a good one in Green.

Oklahoma City (OK) Millwood defensive end Joshua Little has a key visit coming up this weekend, along with Oklahoma City wideout Denver Johnson, as both prospects will be visiting Iowa State, and already hold offers from the Cyclones.

2016 Broken Arrow (OK) quarterback Scotty Gilkey is a name to know and he was offered by Louisville. He'll add a few more along the way as well.

Seward (NE) lineman Adam Holtorf committed to the Wildcats, one of a few Kansas State commitments in the last week. He'll line up at offensive guard for Bill Snyder's squad.

Cedar Rapids (IA) Washington offensive tackle Julian Good-Jones is closing in on a college decision that will be down to Iowa State and Kansas State. The Cyclones will get him on campus again at the end of July and are the favorites.

Murray (IA) defensive end Seth Nerness also will have his decision come down to the Wildcats and Cyclones. Iowa State has the upper hand and will see him on campus this upcoming weekend.

Two 2016 Iowa offensive linemen John Raridon and Jake Heinrich were back in Lincoln once again in the past week. Both Scout300 prospects have visited Nebraska multiple times already. The Huskers also hosted 2016 Sioux Falls (SD) Washington offensive tackle Matt Farniok, another top prospect for his class.

Kansas City (MO) Winnetonka 2017 defensive back Djimon Colbert is camping at Kansas at the end of the month. He will have a good opportunity to be the top prospect for his class in the state of Missouri. An offer from the Jayhawks would not surprise me.

Kearney (MO) offensive tackle Tanner Owen committed to Missouri a couple weeks ago after a strong camp performance. The Tigers continue to build a strong class.

Lawrence (KS) Free State offensive tackle Scott Frantz joined Holtorf in committing to Kansas State this week. The Wildcats like his athleticism and plan for him to contribute after a redshirt season.

Derby (KS) safety Darreon Jackson had offers from Tulsa and UTEP heading into the week but he's added another. Charlie Weis and Kansas have jumped in the ring after Jackson's camp performance at the Wichita satellite camp. He also camped with Oklahoma State and Kansas State recently. There's optimism that an offer from the Wildcats could be on the way as well.

Olathe (KS) North prospects Marcel Spears and Josh Moore will also make their way to Ames for a visit this weekend. Spears has also picked up two more offers in Missouri and Colorado State.

Along with Spears, another Kansas rising senior prospect who's stock has soared recently is Shawnee (KS) Mill Valley offensive tackle Evan Applegate. He's picked up additional offers from Arkansas and Nebraska in the last week.

Wichita (KS) Bishop Carroll athlete Denzel Goolsby also attended Kansas' Wichita satellite camp during the week and walked away with an offer from the Jayhawks. He'll camp at Iowa State on Saturday.
