Midlands: John Humphrey Speaks
Note: This interview was conducted a few days before the announcement of his decommitment. His finalists were Notre Dame, Oklahoma and Baylor. In the end, it was the latter that ended up winning out for the services of League City (Tex.) Clear Falls wide receiver John Humphrey. This occurred in mid April 2014. But this was sort lived as the 6-foot, 165-pound Humphrey opened things up and backed away from his prior commitment to Baylor. "Opened my recruiting process....," Humphrey said via twitter. Just before to change of heart which came on Monday, Humphrey said that Baylor "felt like home and me and my family got along well with the coaches. I just felt comfortable." That comfort must not have been enough for Humphrey to hold on to his commitment. He wanted to make sure, in the end, that Baylor is where he truly wants to be. So over the past couple of weeks, a couple other Big 12 schools have caught his attention. "I had a small workout with TCU. They had me do a few drills and that was about it," Humphrey said. "Then I talked with coach (Gary) Patterson and (assistant) coach Kenny (Perry). The conversation with the TCU coaches was more like just checking up with me." But it another program, one of his original finalists that has his complete attention. "I talk to (assistant) coach Jay Norvell and coach Bob Stoops everyday and I'm just looking forward to visiting there again. They want me on the offense, in the slot position like Jalen Saunders," Humphrey said. "The coaches like my length and speed." It will be a date in July when Humphrey will make his way to Norman, OK.
