New Offer Catches Nelson's Attention
Illinois became the eighth offer for Hales Franciscan rising senior safety Patrick Nelson today, and it came on the heels of a Tuesday visit to Champaign. "This was my second time visiting," he said. "I was coming back from Florida. The first time, I actually liked it better because I was around players and I spent the night." Nelson, a 6-foot, 200-pound prospect, is part of the Illini's movement to try to keep in-state players at home. "I talked to Coach Beckman and I talked to Coach Banks and they were basically saying they want me to represent my home town and they need a player like me." Currently with other offers from schools like Central Michigan, Western Michigan, Toledo, Nevada, and Indiana, who is considered one of his top choices, this offer now changes the face of Nelson's recruitment. "It really made me put a hold on things and now I have to start narrowing things down." Nelson also visited Bloomington to check back in with the Hoosiers recently. "It was good being around the players and seeing how the coaches interacted with the players and coaches. It was great." Even with the new activity, Nelson does not plan to drag out his decision. "I'll decide by the end of July."
