It was a busy week in the state of Kansas on the recruiting trail in the Upper Midlands for the past…
Denzel Goolsby Commits To Kansas State
The Wildcats are getting an offensive playmaker that will have the ball in his hands quite a bit throughout his college career.
The commitment occurred while he was in Manhattan.
"I visited Kansas State today," Goolsby said. "I committed to them on the visit. I went there this time more so for my mother. She hadn't seen some of the facilities or met some of the coaches."
Goolsby went into the visit knowing that the Wildcats would be his college choice.
"I was in Lawrence yesterday," he pointed out. "I sat down and spoke to Coach Weis for 20 minutes. He had great things to say. They always say to go with your heart and your gut feeling and right now it's in Manhattan and with Kansas State."
"It's exciting to have the opportunity to carry on something that my family has been apart of," Goolsby added. "I've had two cousins play there and I'm excited to carry on that tradition."
It wasn't just the family connection to the program that enticed Goolsby to Kansas State. Bill Snyder's staff also played a large role.
"The atmosphere there is incredible," he noted. "The energy of the coaching staff as a whole is a big draw as well. You can't beat their football atmosphere. Their fans are so passionate. Just in the past week since I was offered, the fans had been blowing me up and tweeting me. I've had many texts about it, too. The feeling you get before you are officially apart of the program is unbelievable."
"I love every single one of the coaches," Goolsby continued. "That's why I wanted to commit early. I wanted to completely be on board with them because they're completely on board with their players and their families. It's something I've bought into. I'm excited for things to get rolling."
Goolsby already alluded to why now was the right time for him to make his choice, but he shed some more light on what made today the perfect time to make his college decision. He had previously been interested in taking official visits before making anything permanent.
"I was open to taking official visits but I got to thinking about things," he explained. "Official visits would be nice and to live up the recruiting process, but at the end of the day I didn't want to play around with it. My heart is with Kansas State and I didn't think anything was going to change that. Knowing that, I didn't want to wait any longer and prolong it. I wanted to get it off my mind and commit before anyone else does."
The Wichita native is being recruited by Kansas State as a running back and wide receiver. Which one he stars at in Manhattan will be determined at a later date.
