"The past six or seven months I made multiple trips up there," he explained," and from the coaches to the location, it just felt like the right fit for me. The coaching staff and football team have made me feel comfortable."
Jones (5-9, 205 pounds) helped his team to a state title last season while amassing a whopping 2,653 yards and 42 touchdowns on the ground.
That production and his stocky build have him ready to compete at a high level, and his academic progress will allow him to get an early jump on that as well.
"I haven't really spoken with the coaching staff about that yet, but I am on track to graduate in December and then attend spring practice, which would hopefully put me in contention for early minutes."
Jones doesn't just want to play, he wants to win, and he believes Darrell Hazell and his staff are ready to do that.
"They are a coaching staff that is looking to turn Purdue in the right direction and one thing we always talk about is being great, so we're hoping to win some games and do it together as players and a staff."
Best of all, those wins will come in front of familiar faces.
"It feels good to be close to home and have my friends and family be able to get to the games. I'm looking forward to Saturdays."
