Detroit Cass Tech took a road trip South, hitting several camps along the way, and it proved to be a fruitful excursion for rising junior receiver Demetric Vance as he landed his first scholarship offer from NC State.
"I thought, when I went up there, they were real supportive of me and I like the environment and I like their playing style," he said.
A good sized kid (6-2, 190 pounds) with sure hands and two years of varsity experience, it seemed like only a matter of time before the offers came, but Vance was not so sure, so he is happy the Wolfpack came through.
"It was kind of a relief because I was getting kind of nervous. It was getting close to my senior year and I wanted to get that first one so I could start racking up more offers."
The Wolverines had him in their camp last summer and saw him again at the Sound Mind, Sound Body Football Academy this year.
"They told me they like me a lot. Last summer when I went to Michigan, the receivers coach said he really liked me, liked working with me and was showing me that he wanted me to come there."
He was at Michigan State on June 14, where his performance, once again, turned heads.
"Coach Samuel, he always asks me when I'm going to call him so he wants me to get up there and keep working with him."
