Baning Has Strong Camp Showing

Leonardtown (MD) St. Mary's Ryken defensive tackle Barnabas Baning had an impressive camp performance at Ohio State last weekend. The big man has put together a fine college scholarship list so far.

There were several defensive tackle prospects holding offers that impressed at last week's Ohio State summer camp, including Barnabas Baning, from Leonardtown (MD) St. Mary's Ryken.

Baning, 6-foot-3, 330-pounds, is a run-stopper extraordinaire, using his size and bulk in the middle of the defensive line.

"The Ohio State camp was fun and I learned a lot from the coaches," Baning stated. "I had fun with the one-on-one's and I got a lot better as a player. I got to speak with Coach (Larry) Johnson again, and he's a good guy."

With seven offers, Baning has hit the recruiting radar, but he is looking for more.

"I have offers from a lot of smaller schools, with Syracuse being my biggest offer," he explained. "I plan on taking a visit to Syracuse soon, and I'm very interested in checking them out. I visited Toledo while we were in Ohio, and I like them a lot."

"I'm thinking of making my commitment in the last week of July," he added. "If I start getting bigger offers I could extend it more, and I would wait all the way to National Signing Day if I needed to."

EVALUATION: Although carrying too much weight right now, Baning showed the power and bulk college coaches are looking for. He battled hard through one-on-one's and showed he has the talent to play at the next level.
