Decision Day Almost Here For Hilliard
Decision day is almost here for Cincinnati (Ohio) St. Xavier linebacker Justin Hilliard as he'll give his verbal pledge to one of five schools. While Hilliard is down to Notre Dame, Ohio State, Iowa, Michigan and Alabama, he recently visited the first two schools for one final time. "Really the Notre Dame trip was kind of going for the last time before I make my decision," explained Hilliard. "It was to hang out with the players and coaches and kind of see how comfortable I was with both of them. "Also, one thing I really didn't get to do in the past was to sit down and talk and get in-depth about their business program. So they got someone to come and talk with me and give me information about the business school which I thought was really interesting as she had some really cool things to say as for Notre Dame having the number one undergraduate business school and things like that." While Hilliard was expected to arrive for part of the Irish Invasion activities, things didn't go as planned. However, he did get some time to connect with other recruits. "I didn't really get a chance to attend as I had workouts and showed up late," he said. "But just as far as being there, it was pretty cool to have a chance to talk with guys like Shaun Crawford and Te'Von Coney and other guys like that. And to see how they were doing was cool." The next day Hilliard traveled back to his home state for one final trip to Ohio State. "When I went to Ohio State the main goal of the trip was to see the academic part of the campus and what the business program has in it," he said. "Coach (Urban) Meyer set up a meeting for me with the dean of the business school and she went over the transition from high school and really how Ohio State's business school is getting better. She explained how it takes like a 29 average on the ACT for the business school. "Also, after all that, I got a chance to hand out with the players. So that was pretty cool." In today's world of social media and the ability to connect like never before, Hilliard stressed there are only a few prospects he really stays in constant contact with. "I talk with other recruits pretty often," he said. "We talk about schools, but we usually talk about other things than that for the most part. I would say I have a pretty good relationship with about seven or eight recruits right now where I message them regularly." As for any significance to his announcement day, Hilliard knew the time was upon him to get it done. "No, I just thought it was a day," he said with a laugh. "To be honest, I just wanted to pick a day and go with that." As for any butterflies starting to surface as the day nears, Hilliard was strong in his next statement. "I'm definitely confident," he stressed. "I would say I'm a little bit anxious as I can finally get over the process and start recruiting other guys to whatever school I end up going to." To close, Hilliard stressed he's seen enough to make a decision that he'll not have to look back at in the coming months. "I've been to each of my top schools a lot of times," he said. "I'm probably averaging like seven visits except for Iowa where my brother goes. But I saw everything in the books when I went up there. "So as far as information, I know everything about each school."
