Takkarist McKinley has collected almost 20 offers, but the sought-after junior college defensive end prospect appears to be in the process of narrowing his choices.
McKinley tweeted Monday night that he has trimmed his lengthy list of options to a somewhat more manageable 10 schools, in no particular order:
Top 10 schools blessed ! Thankful to have second opportunity. Time to get my mind rite for 2014-2015 season pic.twitter.com/FQVY3sXpbD— takkarist mckinley (@D1boundTAKK) July 1, 2014
The 6-foot-4, 230-pounder plays for Contra Costa College in San Pablo, Calif. McKinley played his high school ball for Kennedy High School in nearby Richmond, Calif., which is near Oakland.
McKinley signed with California, which is less than 10 miles from Kennedy High, out of high school before winding up at Contra Costa. At the time (Feb. 2013), McKinley chose the Golden Bears over offers from Nevada and Washington State.
Scout.com reported less than a week ago that four of McKinley's five official visits for this fall have already been set. McKinley visited USC and UCLA on the same day last week, recording a hand-timed 4.45-second 40-yard dash while visiting the Trojans. McKinley told Scout in May that he has dates in mind for three of his potential official visits.
McKinley had an impressive freshman season in 2013 for Contra Costa. He finished the year with 43 tackles, 18 tackles for loss, and 10 sacks. McKinley is a pure edge rusher with his height, length, and athleticism.
