The Opening: Previewing Deontay Anderson

Deontay Anderson

Scout.com is profiling each member from the Midlands Region heading to The Opening next week at Nike's headquarters in Beaverton, Oregon, and in this installment we look at uncommitted Class of 2016 four-star safety Deontay Anderson.

Deontay Anderson ('16)

7v7 Team: Landsharks
Position: S
HT: 6'1 | WT: 192
Manvel (Texas)

Recruiting: As a 2016 recruit Anderson still has a lot of time left, but has already pulled down a plethora of offers, notably from in region powers like Texas, Texas A&M and Oklahoma.

Scouting Report: He is well put together and a tremendous athlete at the safety position. He is able to stop and start quickly, giving him a good break on the ball to defend passes as well as the ability to come up quickly in run support. He is one of the player who just seems to have a nose for the football. He is often in the right place at the right time. Plays under control and moves with direct intent.

At Stake: Edged out Deionte Thompson and 2016 classmate Brandon Jones for the MVP honors at the Houston NFTC. As the lone 2016 prospect from the region he just needs to show that he belongs. Should be a great experience to possibly gain two invites to The Opening in a high school career.
