Upper Midlands JUCO Forecast: Part 1
Junior college prospects around the nation are beginning to make their college choices, as they look to finish the process before their season begins. Many of them can sign in December so it's important that they begin to come to some conclusions as the season nears. The top junior college prospects in Kansas and Iowa are focused on in this report, and where they could end up this time next year. FORT SCOTT DB James Gray. One of the top safety prospects at the junior college level, the Jayhawks should be the favorite to land him. OL Byron Rich. He projects to be a center at the next level and his lone offer at this time is from Utah State, giving the Aggies the upper hand. WR Shawn Thomas. The junior college wideout only has one offer to his name as of now which gives Arkansas State the advantage. Butler LB Davon Durant. Formerly of Greenwood, South Carolina, the athletic linebacker has his pick of the litter of where to attend college. He has favorites of South Carolina, Georgia, Florida State, and Arizona State. He's already seen the Sun Devils, but the Gamecocks would be my pick to land his signature. RB Chris Carson. Iowa State and Utah State are the favorites for Carson, but I'd have the Cyclones as the pick to land the running back. OT Tyler Howell. He's a prototypical college offensive tackle at his size of 6-foot-8 and 305 pounds. Offers have come from Missouri, Arkansas, and Kentucky. The Tigers may be in the best position to land him at this point. DL Ulric Jones. His recruitment is a little more wide open but the demand is there for the big defensive lineman. Texas A&M is in a good spot right now, but USC isn't too far behind. South Carolina and Georgia can be major players with an offer as well. OL Will Smith. The 6-foot-3, 305 pound offensive guard has already committed to Kansas. HUTCHINSON LB Claude George. The edge rusher and top linebacker recently committed to Miami, but I don't think that's the last we will hear about his recruitment. Washington could play a role in this one, or if a new school that intrigues him would offer. DL Jeremiah Ledbetter. It's a three-team race for the defensive end's services, with Florida, Arkansas, and Miami in the mix. I have the Gators being the favorite right now, but subject to change. DE Marquavius Lewis. The five-star plays his cards to the vest but somebody will get the nation's best junior college defensive end. I think it ultimately comes down to Auburn and South Carolina, and give the Tigers the edge at this point. RB Alvin Kamara. The former Alabama running back was deciding between Tennessee and Georgia, but ended up giving his commitment to the Volunteers. I feel that he is pretty locked in with his decision and do not expect any last minute drama.
