Martinas Rankin out of Ms Gulf Coast CC is one of the more sought after junior college prospects in…
"The only places I have been this summer are Ole Miss and MSU," Rankin said. "I think I might go back to both colleges before we report back to MS Gulf Coast CC."
Rankin talks about his trip to Ole Miss.
"I like everything up there really, from the football to the people. I just like it. It's a program on the rise. I good place. I think I would enjoy going to Ole Miss."
The Rebels have a need at the offensive tackle slots. They have pegged Martinas as their number one juco offensive tackle prospect.
"That increases the chances for me to come up there. Its a spot that I can compete for. I know I am their number one juco offensive tackle on their board. They are recruiting me really hard. They want me to be a Rebel. I talk to pretty much all of their coaches weekly. Coaches Barney (Farrar), (Matt) Luke, and Freeze talk to me a lot. I talk to coach Freeze a whole lot. Like I said they always tell me I am their number one juco offensive tackle on their board and it shows. I have a great relationship with all of those guys."
While Rankin holds offers from over a dozen BCS programs there are four schools who seem to be showing the most interest.
"I am going to take all of my official visits and make a decision after my season."
"Ole Miss, MSU, and Oklahoma talk to me the most. They have multiple coaches who call me. Kentucky too. I forgot about Kentucky. Those are the schools I talk to a little more because they show me they really want me. I like that a lot too."
Mississippi State has also made an impact with Martinas' recruitment.
"I get a good vibe from their coaches and players. I like their facilities a lot. They are also working me hard. They want to get the best out of me. Both schools (OM&MSU) I feel like are on the rise, and they want to get the best out of me."
What are the main factors when it does come decision time?
"I just want to go where I get that good vibe from the coaches, school, fans and players. The players are going to be my teammates for the next two years so I want to make sure I fit in with them. I just want to go where I can be the best person I can be both on and off the field."
The two instate SEC programs have a lot of the same qualities so what will differentiate the two schools when it comes decision time?
"I would say Ole Miss is more chilled. I would be in a good family environment up there. MSU also has a good environment but they preach hard work from the jump. I could go to either of those schools honestly, but over time it will come to me where I really want to be. Right now I feel like I can do good at both places."
Oklahoma might be the dark horse in the mix.
"The thing they talk a lot about is their tradition. They have a winning tradition up at Oklahoma. I can't really say say a lot about them other than that because I have never visited there, but I like a lot of things about Oklahoma. I set up an official visit there for September 13th. That is the only visit I have set up so far."
Kentucky is also in need of a left tackle.
"Their left tackle is graduating this year so they have to fill his hole. They want me to be that guy. They want me for that spot. They let me know that every time we talk. I have a good relationship with their coach, but the main thing with them is that I am needed at Kentucky. I just got to get up there for a visit so I can check it out."
Rankin picked up a new offer recently. He also has a couple more big time programs that are trying to jump into the game.
"I got an offer from Kansas recently, but I do not talk to them a lot. Texas and Ohio State have been talking to me a bunch the last few weeks. They have not offered me yet but things are heating up with both schools."
There is no rush to make a decision for the December graduate.
"Not at all. I am going to take all of my official visits and make a decision after my season."
