C.J. Conrad had a nice first day of The Opening on Tuesday, proving he belonged among the elite athletes in the country.
"It’s awesome," the 6-foot-5, 220-pound tight end said. "It's very humbling going against some of the best in the country. The quarterbacks are great, and I wanted to come out, not just because I got picked, but to represent myself, my school, my family and Kentucky."
Not only is he able to show his talents, but Conrad is using this as an opportunity to improve and get coached by some of the best.
"I’ve been taking it all in because these guys know everything. Eric Ebron just got picked this year in the top ten, he’s been coaching me, I’ve been listening to what he has to say and trying to suck it all in."
Of course, recruiting is a big part of the event, and Conrad is shooting straight for the top of the board in his efforts.
"Me and Damien Harris have been hitting it off. I came out here to represent Kentucky but in the same way I do want to recruit a lot so I’ve been talking to Damien a lot, I know that’s a really big prospect in the state of Kentucky, so I’ll try to keep him home."
He added, "Yeah, he’s been responsive. It’s been cool. I don’t want to speak on his behalf but I think it’s going pretty well and I’m trying to talk to other kids."
