Top Five Standouts From Tuesday Night
Gabe Reid- There were a handful of D1 football players on the field last night and close to two dozen good high school football players, but nobody was in the same league as Reid last night. The Timpview DE/OLB would have dominated last night if it was 11 on 1. The explosiveness displayed by Reid was remarkable. He recorded nearly half a dozen sacks, hawked the running back down more times than I could count, and was disruptive on every single snap. Westlake didn't even have a chance to run their offense when Reid was on the field. It was one of the most dominant performances I have seen this off season. Westlake was fortunate that Timpview used Reid sparingly in the second half of the scrimmage. Reid continued to impact the game from the sideline, as he coached younger guys and cheered on his teammates. He is a very good football player.
Britain Covey- Covey was just as much a coach as he was the quarterback of Timpview last night. He has a young and inexperienced line, and Covey was teaching them on the go last night. He made a few brilliant throws, including a beautiful 50 yard bomb to Jordan Espinoza. The Timpview QB looked like the same dynamic playmaker that carried his team to the state championship last night. You'd be hard pressed to find a more shifty and dangerous weapon in the state.
Devin Kaufusi- Kaufusi had some good reps last night. He looked stronger and he showed signs of becoming a great football player down the road. Kaufusi has the versatility of playing defensive end or outside linebacker and is comfortable at both spots. He displayed some nice finesse moves last night. Once Kaufusi adds some mass, the game could become effortless for the future BYU Cougar.
Kainoa Tu'ua- Tu'ua could be the unsung hero of this Timpview team. The outside backer has a great motor and good size as well. Tu'ua has flying around the ball as much as anyone not named Gabe Reid. Tu'ua can play the run well, but he is even stronger in pass coverage. Tu'ua is going to get some looks this fall.
Jordan Espinoza- Espinoza could become Covey's #1 target this fall. The up and coming receiver has size and speed. He outran defensive backs a few times last night and displayed good hands as well. Espinoza could emerge as one of the best receivers in Utah County this fall.
