Modster staying patient

The 2016 quarterback class in Southern California is shaping up to be another strong one. One player not getting near the attention his talent deserves is Las Flores (Calif.) Tesoro signal caller Devon Modster.

Devon Modster had a very good showing at the recent Huntington Beach 7v7 Tourney and led his team to a 3rd place finish. Here was our evaluation of Modster following the tournament;

"After Josh Rosen, no one had a better day throwing the ball than Modster. Modster has a stocky frame that makes him look shorter than he is but he's probably about 6-1.5-6-2 and 215 pounds. In the opening game of the day, he threw five TD passes before throwing a single incomplete pass. He showed off a very live arm putting the ball in tight windows and also had some great deep balls with touch and accuracy as well."

On the recruiting front, Modster attended several camps over the summer but is still waiting for his first scholarship offer.

"I camped at USC, Fresno State, San Diego State, UCLA, Washington and Oregon State," Modster said. "Those were all camps our here in Southern California, I didn't have to travel because the out of state schools did satellite camps here. Of those camps, USC and Oregon State seemed to like me the most but that's about all that's going on right now.

"I'm not really hearing from anyone, it's been pretty quiet for me. My plan is to go out and have a big junior season and get that film out. I'll be more of a dual threat quarterback this year and will run a lot more. I think some schools just see me as a pocket passer but I can run too so I want to show colleges that I can do both. Right now, I'm open to anyone, whoever wants to recruit me, that's who I like."

Modster is currently ranked the No. 272 player in the 2016 class and should have a big junior season. He has made big strides throwing the ball and already had the size and arm strength needed to play at the next level.
