Panama City (Fla.) Mosley High School linebacker prospect Reakwon Jones committed to Florida Atlantic on Monday night and announced his decision publicly yesterday afternoon. The 6-foot-1 and 210-pound rising senior also gave serious consideration to South Alabama before announcing his decision. Jones says it was a very difficult decision and he had multiple conversations with coaches from both programs before pledging to the Owls.
Jones says the momentum FAU has picked up under new head football coach Charlie Partridge and his relationship with his recruiting coach Chris Hurd were both keys in his final outcome.
”Me and Coach Hurd have a really great relationship. He is just telling me good things and they were getting commit after commit. Rashard Causey is a big one. He has offers from big places and he decided to stay home in Boca Raton and that kind of opened my eyes that something special is going on at FAU,” explained Jones.
He also felt like he was a priority for the Owls and they consistently made him feel wanted.
”In talking to the coaches I am their number one outside linebacker. When I committed Monday night they seemed really excited to have me in the family. That is a blessing and I am just glad I could be that big to somebody,” Jones said.
The versatile defender, Jones plays safety and linebacker in high school, camped with the Owls in June and had a great experience with the FAU coaches.
”The coaching staff is great. They started to talking to me in camp about why don’t I become and Owl and stuff like that. It was just a great feeling with the coaches. I really think big things are going to happen in Boca and I wanted to go ahead and hop on that train. Spots are filling up fast and Boca seems like the place to be right now. They were my number one school, so why not,” Jones said of his commitment.
