Updated Rankings: Changes In The East

Scout.com released its updated 2015 rankings, and there were some movement in the East Region.

A North Carolina commit added a fourth star, a handful of players had their projected position changed, Syracuse made a huge leap in the team rankings and Penn State’s dominance in the region is easily visible.

As Scout.com released its updated rankings today, there are plenty of storylines to go with them, including seven of the Top 12 players in the East still uncommitted, and 15 players rated with four or five stars still looking for a school.

Furthermore, 41 of the top 150 prospects in the region remain uncommitted as high school practices get ready to start.

But when it comes to the region, Penn State’s ability to snag eight of the Top 25 players in the region, and have 16 of the top 71, is a staggering figure. Penn State has the No. 6 class in the nation, but one program making a huge jump was Syracuse.

The Orange moved from No. 45 to No. 22, and a big reason is Hamden (Conn.) Hall defensive end Brandon Ginnetti, Norwalk (Conn.) High offensive tackle Evans Adams and Lowell (Mass.) High outside linebacker Shyheim Cullen are now each three-star prospects.

Rutgers and Maryland each have five of the top 100 prospects in the region, but a big surprise is Temple. The Owls were able to flip Maryland cornerback commit Kareem Ali of Erial (N.J.) Timber Creek, and landed Lakewood (N.J.) High’s Chapelle Cook. In fact, Cook also had his projected position switched from running back to linebacker.

Also seeing their positions changed were Ohio State commit Tyler Green, a safety, from Hyattsville (Md.) DeMatha, Brooklyn Grand Street’s Kamaal Seymout, who moved from defensive tackle to offensive tackle and Wisconsin commit Millburn (N.J.) High’s Jake Picard, who switched from tight end to defensive end.

When it comes to prospects at the top of the region, there is plenty left to go after for the top schools.

The region’s top player, and No. 3 player in the nation, is uncommitted defensive end Josh Sweat of Chesapeake (Va.) Oscar Smith. Next is five-star uncommitted outside linebacker prospect Ricky DeBerry of Richmond (Va.) St. Christopher’s.

Other top 12 prospects in the class yet to commit are defensive end Christian Wilkins of Suffield (Conn.) Academy, defensive tackle Tim Settle of Manassas (Va.) Stonewall Jackson, middle linebacker Jahvoni Simmons of Virginia Beach (Va.) Ocean Lakes, offensive tackle Isaiah Prince of Greenbelt (Md.) Eleano Roosevelt and cornerback John Reid of Philadelphia St. Joseph’s Prep.

Also, UNC commit Aaron Crawford, a defensive tackle from Ashburn (Va.) Stone Bridge, picked up a fourth start.
