The 6-foot-5, 270-pound senior had a big summer pulling in eight offers before committing to the Huskies.
"They were the only place I could see myself going," he said. I have a lot there to love and the coaches are awesome. The style of football sticks out to me a ton as well."
Steckler is the sixth member of the class from his home state as well, and he hopes they can continue the success the program has had in reaching an Orange Bowl and producing a Heisman finalist in recent years.
"Obviously the winning tradition they are building also really made me love it there," he finished.
Steckler becomes commit number 19 for NIU who now moves to number two in the MAC rankings.
