”Right now, I have offers from Virginia, NC State and Virginia Tech ,” said Alex Faniel. “Ole Miss and Penn State are the other main schools recruiting me. Recruiting is going fast for me and it’s truly a blessing.
Faniel has visited both NC State and most recently Virginia twice this summer.
”The last place I visited was UVa on Aug. 16,” said the 6-foot-5, 213-pound Faniel. “They had a barbecue for the prospects and their team scrimmage. The coaches told me they were glad I was there.
”It’s a great place with a great campus. Coach (Mike) London has got things going and he turning things around up there. They also have great coaches and great facilities, and I really like Charlottesville. It’s a nice place to be and it’s only 45 minutes away from where I live.”
He also enjoyed his trips to Raleigh.
”NC State is a great program,” he said. “They’ve had a great lineage of quarterbacks with Phillip Rivers and Russell Wilson. They’ve had a lot of success with quarterbacks in my area, too.”
He has also taken trips to Ole Miss and Penn State.
”I went down to Ole Miss during the spring with Ricky DeBerry and Tim Settle and they rolled out the red carpet for us,” Faniel said. “They treated us really well, the coaching staff is amazing and the campus is beautiful. The coaches have told me to keep in touch.
”I went Penn State on July 19 and after the camp, coach (James) Franklin talked to me one-on-one and said I had a great performance. I enjoyed my time there. He said they would just like to see my grades and my film after the season, and they could possibly offer after that.”
In regards to visits this fall, Faniel already has some in mind.
”I know my parents and me are trying to go to the Virginia for their game against UCLA," he said. "I’m also trying to go to an NC State game, but I’m not sure which one yet. And we’re trying to go to Virginia Tech for the Miami or Virginia game.”
Saint Christopher’s opens their season on Sept. 6 at home against St. Stephens & St. Agnes at 1 p.m.
